What an appointment costs

Three ways people usually come to us. The figure is agreed at the end of the first conversation rather than printed here, because until somebody has looked at you it would only be a guess.

First appointment

On request

Forty minutes. What is wrong, what you have already tried, and whether this is ours to treat at all.

  • A full assessment before anything is treated
  • A written summary of what we found
  • An honest answer if you would be better off elsewhere

Most people

Treatment session

On request

The ordinary appointment after the first one. Same room, same practitioner, shorter.

  • Everything from the first appointment carried forward
  • The same practitioner unless you ask otherwise
  • Exercises written down rather than demonstrated and forgotten
  • Notes updated while you are still in the room

A course of six

On request

Booked together and priced together, for the things that will not shift in one visit.

  • Six appointments held in the diary at once
  • A proper review at the third
  • Sessions you do not use are refunded, not carried over

What the businesses on the wharf arrange

The market traders, the studios and the offices all use us differently, so the arrangement differs too. Every one of them is a standing agreement rather than a bill per person.

Quoted work

Work we price after we have seen it

Some things cannot be listed honestly until somebody has looked at them. These are quoted before they start, and the quote holds.

  • Getting back to work after surgery

    After assessment

Built around what the surgeon has allowed and what the job actually asks of you, which are rarely the same list.

    • A written plan you can hand to your employer
    • Reviewed every third appointment
    • Revised in writing when the plan changes
  • A studio looked at properly

    After a visit

Somebody comes to your bench and watches you work for an hour. Most of what we find gets fixed the same afternoon.

    • An hour on site while the work is going on
    • Changes we can make there and then
    • A note of anything that needs money spending
  • Visits along the quay

    On request

For people who cannot manage the walk to us. Limited to the streets either side of the wharf, which is as far as an hour will stretch.

    • Within walking distance of the quay
    • The same practitioner you would see in clinic

What you can hold us to

  • We will tell you if you do not need treatment

  • You see the same person each time

  • Nothing goes in the diary that you did not agree to

  • Your notes are yours the moment you ask

The things people usually have to ask at the desk

Written down here so nobody has to ask at the desk.

Cancelling

Up to the evening before and there is nothing to pay. On the day we will ask you to cover the room, and we will waive it if the reason is a good one.

Sending you elsewhere

We treat three things well and a fourth badly. If yours is the fourth you will be told where to go instead, by name, at the first appointment.

Getting in

Both rooms are on the ground floor off the east quay, level from the cobbles to the door. Nothing on the route needs the grain store lift.

Someone in the room

Anyone may bring a person in with them, and one of ours will sit in if you would rather not be on your own. Say so when you book, or at the desk.

  • Level access from the cobbles
  • Hearing loop in both rooms
  • Late appointments on market days
  • Interpreters booked on request
  • A waiting room rather than a corridor

Who is actually in the rooms

Three of us and two rooms, which is why the diary is easier to get into on a Tuesday than on a Saturday.

Ruth Enderby

Physiotherapy

Takes most of the first appointments. Has spent years working with people who lift things for a living, which is most of this quarter.

Ali Khoury

Sports and remedial massage

Works the late slots on market days, largely because the traders cannot get here before six and had stopped trying.

Dilys Warrell

Podiatry

Here two days a week. Most of her list walks over from the market, where everybody stands on concrete all day.
